bebop jazz Parrot Bebop Review + Vs DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ camera comparison

The main reason I'm comparing the Bebop with the DJI Phantom is that if you get the Skycontroller package then the price range is very similar.
I was putting up another more controlled camera comparison and thought I would add some review over the footage. Feel free to mute if you don't want to hear my voice (sorry it was my first voiceover).

The camera on the Bebop is good enough for the price and it just seems to be the software that is letting it down. The current lack of GPS / Mapping routing which was heavily advertised but now apparently will come later as an IAP as well as the lack of altitude and distance readouts are strong reasons to wait. Lack of RTH when the connection is lost is cause for concern and may lead to some drones getting lost or damaged. These may be added or improved but may not ever work properly.

Overall I think the Bebop is overpriced and if you consider the SkyController as well then you may as well consider the much better and more reliable DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ or any of the other big brand drones.
This test was done in optimal lighting conditions, early morning and slightly cloudy and aimed away from the sun. The Bebop camera has problems moving between different light metering.

If I get enough interest and anyone wants I can probably strap a GoPro 4 Silver to the top of this thing for a comparison between those 2 cameras. It would need a ton of stabilisation done in post but it would be much sharper.

UPDATE: Not even a year after getting the Vision+ one of the batteries failed and it auto-landed. Most of my flying is done over water and this was no exception. My Phantom 2 Vision+ landed at the bottom of the muddy Brisbane River and is presumed KIA.
The Bebop also received a significant usability update which may actually make it better now.

UPDATE 2: The Parrot Bebop only lasted 4 months. No major crashes and the thing developed a major motor failure and refused to fly any more. Boxed up and I'm getting it refunded. This is not the drone Parrot promised. The camera quality is not worth $700 AU and the drone has a very short 10-20 metre radius of operation. It's not a quality product. DJI has issues but so does every other drone manufacturer.

UPDATE 3: Due to the rubbish Australian dollar the base Parrot Bebop is $800 and now $1500 with the skycontroller (which lets you get further than a few metres away). The DJI Phantom 3 Standard RRP is $1100 and can easily be found on sale for $900. Hopefully version 2 of the Bebop is just around the corner.
